Quattro Adventure is part of a three game series by Camerica. Quattro Adventure, Sports and Arcade exist and on each of these cartridges
feature four games that all have the same theme. The cartridges are gold
and have a little picture of each of the games on the front. There also
exists a much rarer version of Quattro Adventure and Quattro Sports that
are on an Aladdin Cart. You can tell the difference because the Aladdin
Cart version is much smaller in size and must be placed into an Aladdin
Cart in order to play on an NES.
The two versions play exactly the same.
The four games on Quattro Adventure are:
Linus Spacehead
– This game is decently fun. You are this cute little guy that
appears to be in pajamas and has a red cape (he reminds me of Calvin from
the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes).
In the first level your spaceship has crashed in the water and you must
ride bubbles out to safety before your oxygen runs out. In the second
level you are back on land and are dodging what appear to be coconuts.
That is as far as I've gotten so far because this game is hard due to
insanely bad controls. You have 3 guys and no continues and if you get
hit once your dead, so it can be very difficult. I found the game to be
fun but very frustrating. One problem is that all you can do is run and
jump a little bit leaving yourself vulnerable to all kinds up enemies.
This one gets a C.
Super Robin Hood – In this game you apparently play Robin Hood
in what is definitely not a sequel to the fun Robin Hood: Prince of
Thieves. You have to retrieve all of these different treasures in order
to beat the game. It's a little bit like a puzzle game mixed with an
adventure game. You have to get keys to open up doors that lead to the
treasures. You also have 3 guys in this game and once again no continues. You can get hit three times and collect
energy along the way. This game is the only one in the set that allows
you to actually hurt your enemies, obviously you
use a bow and arrow to inflict damage.
I don't like this game at all. D
Boomerang Kid – The title gives one the impression that you are
a kid who can throw boomerangs at your enemy but alas that is not the
case. You are actually a portly little kid who has to collect the
boomerangs on each level. This one would definitely be described as a
puzzle game. I have no idea how long it is but I made it through the
Outback. The second level is in a castle but I couldn't make it through
the castle. Once again you get three lives and no continues
and if you get hit once you are a goner. This one has some durability for
me but I haven’t really been drawn back to it much. C
Treasure Island Dizzy – In this one you control a very fragile
egg. You get one life and if you
touch anything harmful it is an instant game over. Talk about an unforgiving game! You can hold up to three items at a
time and each item that you can find in the game must be used at a
specific location in order to further the adventure. Some items that must be found are a
snorkel so that you can go in the water and dynamite so that you can blow
up something that is in your way. Dizzy is actually a pretty fun game although
it is very challenging. B
Positives:
OK, for starters there are four
games on this cart. That’s always
nice. Of course anytime a cart has
more than one original game on it you have to wonder what the reason
is. On the NES it is almost always
because the games are crappy and couldn’t be sold separately. All of the games are decent, and
Treasure Island Dizzy is actually a bit above decent.
Glaring
Negatives:
All four games are insanely
difficult. They all feature
awkward controls and no continues leaving you
with almost no room for error. If
you take the time to master the controls then the games will probably be
better but why bother when there are so many great games begging to get
played.
Graphics
and Sound: Absolute Brilliance!
Another game in the great tradition of "Absolute
Brilliance"! The graphics are terrible in these games. You can tell
they were made with a low budget, Linus Spacehead is cute but that is the only good thing I
have to say about the graphics. The sound isn't too bad but not great
either.
Gameplay
and Controls: Not much
Not much to speak of here. The characters are hard to control and have
almost no jumping ability at all. The heroes are all hard to maneuver,
which means your game normally lasts no more than five minutes.
Features:
4 games
This cart has four games on it,
what else do you want?
Fun?: A
little
This is one of those carts that never has
done much for me. I had a brief
fling with Treasure Island Dizzy but other than that I have never really
enjoyed playing Quattro Adventure.
Challenge:
Not too tough to master
Due to the gameplay being
smoother you will probably find this game to be a bit easier than Donkey
Kong. It wouldn’t take too much
time to be racking up six digit scores.
Replay:
Re?
I can't even play these games long enough to beat them once let alone
to give it another go. I could see myself playing these games long enough
to beat them but I can't imagine ever playing them after that.

Player: None
Four games, zero two-player
options.

Manual?: Yes

Bottom
Line: For collectors only
Not a great game, but if you want
some weird ones in your collection this one definitely qualifies.
