2-player Simultaneous Action

2-player Simultaneous Action means two people playing at the same time in an action game. The NES excels in this department. I have to admit that when a buddy comes over, there's nothing more fun than whupping butt together. It's hard to go wrong with any of the games in the Top 10.  Obviously this list is far from complete and we plan to add others later.

Agent K's Rankings

  1. Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles III - Fun and difficult. My how I love the turtles.
  2. Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles II - Only slightly different from the third one. In this one basically you just jump and try to use your special attack.
  3. River City Ransom – This game is legendary among NES gamers.  It is cool but basically Double Dragon with power-ups.
  4. Contra – I will probably be burned alive for ranking Contra so low, but while it is good I don’t love it as much as others.
  5. Double Dragon II - Double Dragon rules.
  6. S.C.A.T. – Unique game that is pretty fun.
  7. Monster in My Pocket – Cool game in which you play as Dracula and Frankenstein
  8. Rescue Rangers - This game is really easy, but so what. It is very fun and quite cool. Some of the levels have cool stuff like turning off faucets. Also you can bean your partner in the head with boxes, or just pick him up and chuck him.
  9. Battletoads - This is a cool, but hard game. What makes it even harder is that when your partner runs out of lives, you have to start the level over. This makes for some anger between partners. What?! you died, we were going to finally make it, you @#$%.
  10. Smash T.V.  – Fun game with crazy controls.
  11. NARC – Have you ever felt like gunning down 1000’s of drug dealers, if you have this is the game for you.  A poor man’s Contra.

Unranked and Unplayed:

  • Heavy Barrel
  • Jackal
  • Ikari Warriors 1-3
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street
  • Xenophobe
  • Rampage
  • Double Dragon III

Agent J's Rankings

  1. Double Dragon II – My favorite two-player beat ‘em up of all time.
  2. Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles II – This one ranks ahead of TMNT III due to nostalgia.  I spent countless hours playing this game.  Never could beat it.
  3. Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles III – Very similar to its predecessor but I’ve played it a lot less.
  4. Monster in My Pocket – Shockingly fun game one-player or two-player.
  5. River City Ransom – Lots of cool features and humor lands this one in my Top 5.
  6. Contra – Even though I gave this one an A-, it still isn’t one of my favorite games.
  7. Rescue Rangers – This one is a lot more fun in two-player mode than one-player but it’s just too darn easy.
  8. JackalThis is how I remember Ikari Warriors.  An extremely fun game driving around in a tank.
  9. Battletoads – Actually more fun one-player since the game is virtually impossible two-player.  Of course I would say the same about its one-player mode as well.
  10. Smash T.V.  – Very unique game that I haven’t played too much of yet.
  11. A Nightmare on Elm Street – I love the 4-Score aspect of this game but it doesn’t live up to its title.
  12. Double Dragon III – Extremely disappointing after the masterpiece known as Double Dragon II.
  13. RampageFun for about five minutes, then it goes downhill fast.
  14. Ikari Warriors – Incredibly slow moving game, fans of Bases Loaded and NES Play Action Football will love it!
  15. NARC – Cool idea but seems to be extremely difficult.
